BIO: Hello! You can call me Yuya. I'm from Sendai, Japan. This is my second year in Daybreak Academy. I'm a Tamer, and Odd-Eyes is my familiar. He's the big red dragon that hangs out in the courtyards. He's friendly but he tries to steal food sometimes. I speak Japanese and English but not very good French. I'm also in the theater club. I'm in Lumiere 203. Let's be friends!

[Toki doesn't show any indication he heard Yuya's mutterings as he closes the bathroom door. He doesn't know how much damage he would have done without Adelaide there either, but if he goes any deeper into this conversation, he may accidentally disclose how Adelaide really stopped him, and that he can't do.]

[hippocarnival]

[By the time he comes back, Yuya's sitting at his desk with his head against it and his phone lying beside him. He got an answer, at least. It wasn't quite the one he wanted, but it was a better answer than he was preparing himself for.]

He'll be back. [He starts dully when he hears Toki leave the bathroom.] In 'maybe' a week.

[yokeye]

What!? Just like that!?

[It's hard to believe the fey just gave in to Yuya's demands.]

What did you say to them!?

[hippocarnival]

I asked what they did and to bring him back. They said it wasn't permanent anyway... so I guess the spell is going to wear off.

[And Kano will be back, and Yuya can tell him not to do it again and--he doesn't know what. Maybe ask why.]

[yokeye]

[He wants to yell about it, but he's too tired.]

Kano just had to tell somebody, and no one would have worried.

[Weeks of wondering what happened and why and thinking the worst, and now that there's answers, Toki feels no satisfaction from this outcome. There's something starting deep inside, a realization that Kano maybe cares about no one but himself.]

[hippocarnival]

[Yuya would still worry, for the same reason he's worried now. That Kano would ask to erase his existence. That he'd call it better. Were those things his mom told him?]

Do you think he'd have done it if we said not to?

[yokeye]

I don't know! Maybe!?

[He can't really say one way or the other. Not without knowing what Kano felt when he asked.]

If it's... really what he wanted, we couldn't have stopped him. He'd find another way.

[hippocarnival]

No, but... maybe it wouldn't be what he wanted if he know how much he mattered.

[Yuya knows that Kano has people precious to him. He can't believe that wouldn't mean anything unless he thought it wasn't the same in return.]

[yokeye]

[Toki can't agree there, not completely.]

Sometimes even that isn't enough.

[hippocarnival]

[Yuya gritd his teeth.] Well we wouldn't know if we don't say it!

[yokeye]

[Yuya's right. Toki has never really told Kano how much he means to him. Kano was his first actual friend, or what Toki considered to be anyway.]

I guess I never said anything like that! Just "you're the best" and "I love you", but not like in a serious, you mean something to me way! I should have!

[hippocarnival]

[Okay, well, 'I love you' is kind of intense, even in another language.

But it's not the kind of thing he thought about, making sure someone knew how much they mattered. But it might be what Kano needs, for him to be clearer that he's a real friend.

Yuya shifts up.] He'll be back, so it's not too late. I... don't want him to think this is what he needs to do.

[yokeye]

[Toki walks over to put a hand on Yuya's shoulder.]

We'll make sure he knows how important he is. Shuuya... Shuuya looked at me like he was so frightened, and then he tried to cover it with a smile. Kano's smile. I think Kano's not as happy as he lets on.

[He doesn't know about Kano's mother. What she did to him. What happened when she died, Michael, the hollow, none of it. He's never had a conversation with Kano about Kano that wasn't superficial.]

[hippocarnival]

[Kano is good at deflecting things from himself. Yuya wouldn't know half as much if he didn't happen to be in the wrong (right) place. Ans that's why he agreed to be a secret keeper, and why he can't talk about it now.

His shoulders sink, but he finds a small smile in himself regardless.] Yeah. Kano's hurt. But he's not alone.

[yokeye]

We'll fix it.

[As much as it can be fixed. Kano may have wished for it, but Toki harbors some animosity for the fey who granted his wish. Who manifested these parts of people that maybe for some, like Kano, were reminders of things they didn't need to be reminded of.]

[hippocarnival]

[That's another problem that Yuya definitely isn't thinking about right now. When Kano's back he can consider lecturing the fry on not dredging up everyone's kinda traumatic pasts.

He leans back in his seat.] I'm glad Shuuya hasn't run off. I was a little afraid he would at first...

[yokeye]

He likes you.

[Toki's own experiences with Shuuya were... different. He'd frightened the kid so badly he asked if Toki was going to kill him. That, in turn, scared Toki so much he won't go near Shuuya again.]

Something really bad happened to him, didn't it?

[hippocarnival]

... Yeah. It did.

[Although being abused by one's mother is more than just a singular bad thing, but seeing her die... because even then he still loved her, and it only made things worse.]

That's why I'd like him to give him a happier future.

[yokeye]

[There's something Toki hasn't considered.]

What's going to happen to Shuuya, and the others? I mean, are they really part of people, some kind of weird time displacement thing!? Can they even have different lives or are they going right back to where they came from!?

[hippocarnival]

Uh--[Yuya looks up, furrowing his brow.]

I think... they are from us, and they'll go back to us when they're done with their weird spell.

[Or at least, that's how he parsed it. Shuuya needing Kano back to go to him and all that.] But I meant all of Kano.

[yokeye]

Oh. From now.

[Toki doesn't there is a happier future, for anyone. They're all going to die in Nightfall.]

I don't think I'd know how to start. I don't know what makes him happy at all.

[hippocarnival]

I think letting him know how happy he makes us is a good place to start.

[Because Kano goes out of his way for others, and he tries even if sometimes Yuya thinks his method isn't the best--Yuya's just the same, so it isn't like he can hold it against him.]

The things he does aren't in vain. I'm really glad he lived and I got to meet him, you know? That's the kind of thing I'm going to tell him.

[yokeye]

[Kano was asking what made him happy. Kano was always there for him, kind of. Sometimes Toki can't tell if he means what he says, or does, or if he's being manipulative and has other plans.]

I feel the same way, even if-

[He's cut off by a short vision... A man and a woman in ancient Japanese clothing walk down a long hallway of mirrors. Inside the reflections, they have fox tails. A wolf howls in the distance... He startles a bit at the howling.]

Uhh.. Sometimes, he's hard to figure out, though. But I'm glad I met him too!

[Even if Kano was the source of a lot of his previous problems.]

[hippocarnival]

Yeah. [Yuya's smile is stronger this time.

He pushes himself out of his chair.] Is your eye going to be okay?

[yokeye]

It'll be fine by tomorrow~! Really!

[But he's avoiding the return to this topic. Toki picks up the vision notebook he'd left out and slides it under his mattress. The other one is still on the floor, unnoticed.]

I'm tired. We can talk about it more in the morning?

[Which won't happen, hopefully. Toki climbs up into his loft before Yuya has time to answer.]
