YUYA SAKAKI UN: FUNDIRECTION

BIO: Hello! You can call me Yuya. I'm from Sendai, Japan. This is my second year in Daybreak Academy. I'm a Tamer, and Odd-Eyes is my familiar. He's the big red dragon that hangs out in the courtyards. He's friendly but he tries to steal food sometimes. I speak Japanese and English but not very good French. I'm also in the theater club. I'm in Lumiere 203. Let's be friends!

Oh. From now.

[Toki doesn't there is a happier future, for anyone. They're all going to die in Nightfall.]

I don't think I'd know how to start. I don't know what makes him happy at all.

I think letting him know how happy he makes us is a good place to start.

[Because Kano goes out of his way for others, and he tries even if sometimes Yuya thinks his method isn't the best--Yuya's just the same, so it isn't like he can hold it against him.]

The things he does aren't in vain. I'm really glad he lived and I got to meet him, you know? That's the kind of thing I'm going to tell him.

[Kano was asking what made him happy. Kano was always there for him, kind of. Sometimes Toki can't tell if he means what he says, or does, or if he's being manipulative and has other plans.]

I feel the same way, even if-

[He's cut off by a short vision... A man and a woman in ancient Japanese clothing walk down a long hallway of mirrors. Inside the reflections, they have fox tails. A wolf howls in the distance... He startles a bit at the howling.]

Uhh.. Sometimes, he's hard to figure out, though. But I'm glad I met him too!

[Even if Kano was the source of a lot of his previous problems.]

Yeah. [Yuya's smile is stronger this time.

He pushes himself out of his chair.] Is your eye going to be okay?

It'll be fine by tomorrow~! Really!

[But he's avoiding the return to this topic. Toki picks up the vision notebook he'd left out and slides it under his mattress. The other one is still on the floor, unnoticed.]

I'm tired. We can talk about it more in the morning?

[Which won't happen, hopefully. Toki climbs up into his loft before Yuya has time to answer.]

Just--promise me you won't hurt yourself like that again?

[That's a lot of ask, but Yuya really has to draw the line at self-mutilation. Toki needs more help than he can give, but he can at least give something.]

I'm here whenever you need someone.

I promise!

[And he means it, but he doesn't currently feel the eyes on him. When he does, it's too powerful to overcome.]

I know! And thank you, for that... Always being here.

[While they're on this whole telling Kano that they like having him around, Yuya should know he's appreciated.]

[Yuya crawls into his own bed, tucking back under the covers. It's only then that he realizes how tired he is.]

Yeah... [Yuya closes his eyes, ans then drifts off almost immediately.]

[Toki heads directly for the dorm room after running from Maverick's. The door's unlocked, so either Yuya's here or Toki was the last one to leave. His face is half covered in blood, smeared by tears and Maverick's hand; a mix of blood and coffee down the front of his shirt.]

Yuya?

[Yuya's just on his way out, password and wallet in his hands as Toki gets to the door before he does.

And then he drops them.] Toki! What happened?!

[He's already moving closer, hands outstretched to try and see the damage done.]

[Toki still hasn't seen it, but he's pretty sure Maverick healed things sufficiently.]

I did it again! I know I promised, but I- it just- with Maverick- he fixed it! He can heal things now I guess and I said I would go see Hieke and I will, but I didn't want Goro to come and I had to tell you first so wouldn't worry if I just didn't come back, like with Kano!

[Okay, Yuya isn't really surprised Toki couldn't keep that progress. But it's literally been a day.]

Why wouldn't you come back?

Well not like not exist not come back, but if I just went straight there from Maverick's and didn't talk to you and then I don't... leave right away.

[He tugs at a strand of hair nervously. It's hard to explain. Not because it's a difficult explanation itself, but because it's an admission that he needs more help than he lets on.]

Hieke won't be able to stop the visions. Maybe he can tell me if it's the daemon, my daemon, or not, but he can't them from happening. He can't make me stop seeing it or feeling it. They won't stop until whatever it is, whatever daemon or creature or event this is about shows up or takes place and when I see it, when I feel it watching and just this oppressive darkness and- and terror and it's- I can't- I'll- If it doesn't go away, I don't trust myself not to-

[He's trying so hard not to cry.]

I just- if- until those visions stop-

[Hieke's not going to just let him leave if he admits to trying to take out his own eye twice, is he?]

[Probably not. Yuya stares while Toki continues to prattle, panic as usual and then he just. Puts his hand over Toki's mouth to shut up him.]

Stop. Breathe with me, okay? [He takes a deep, slow breath.] Like this. Calm down.

[Slow down, because it's impossible to find a solution when Toki bounces from one topic to the next in seconds.]

[He thought that made sense, but maybe not. Toki takes a couple of deep breaths as instructed, only to be interrupted from his task... A crowd of foxes, half dressed in colorful kimono, the other half in black with squarish hats. They cheer as a golden palanquin is carried past. The crescendo of jubilation dissolves into screaming... Much like with the similar vision he had when talking to Gongenzaka, a short involuntary scream follows.]

[Yuya does not move his hand. He just waits for Toki to stop screaming, lets the silence sit between them for a moment.]

If you don't have control of yourself when you're having a really bad vision, then that's what we need to fix, right? We need to find something that helps you keep control of yourself when it's happening.

[This is why he nees Toki to slow down. Yuya's not patient himself, but Toki's constant impulsive behavior it to a point of dangerous because he piles problems on problems.

His parents suck, leaving him like this.] Who are you working with for your visions? Do they know this happens?

[Toki nods, because Yuya's right. It's not one problem with this particular daemon eye thing. It is, but it isn't. He reacts too quickly to any of them; that's how he ended up breaking into Valvatorez's office. He moves Yuya's hand from his mouth to answer the next question.]

No one. Not yet. Ekkehardt said to talk to Professor Jailbreak and I was going to, but I haven't because things kept happening!

[Because Toki jumps at every vision he has, Yuya thinks as he bites his lip.]

You need to, Toki. You need a more experienced seer to help you or it won't get better. You said your eye is healed, right? So why don't you call her now?

[Where Yuya can make sure he does it.]

Okay!

[Yes. This was better than going to see Hieke. Toki digs his phone out of his pocket. He scrolls through the network to find her and calls. It goes straight to voicemail.]

Professor Jailbreak~! Hello~! It's Toki~! So something came up, a lot of somethings really, and I wish to discuss important matters with you whenever you have the time~! Call me back~!

[Done.]

[... It'll have to do for now.]

Please, please follow up. [Yuya looks at him imploringly. If he has to beg to make Toki do it, he will.] I don't want you to hurt yourself anymore.

I will! I'll call her again tomorrow if she doesn't call me back!

[He can't meet Yuya's eyes.]

It'll be fine. She'll help.

Okay. [Trusting Toki is a leap of faith, but he's gotten help before. He has to believe he will again.]

Stay there. [Yuya steps back and holds up a finger before turning to dart into the bathroom. He runs warm water over a towel quickly, so he can press it to Toki's face and try to clear off the blood.]

[Toki gently grabs Yuya's wrist before he gets too far.]

Yuya, it's fine.

[He gestures to everything that's covered in coffee and blood.]

I need a shower.

[Again. Which is what he goes to do.]

[Yuya pulls his hand back, wringing the towel in it as he watches Toki move around him to the bathroom.

... Well, he didn't need to leave to do anything urgent. Maybe he should stay here for now, so he can keep an eye on Toki. He's been having that vision a lot after all.]

[Toki takes a little longer than usual in the bathroom. He cries a lot in shower, and then spends a good three minutes just looking over his eye in the mirror. Maverick's healing worked really well. Maybe too well. He covers his right eye just to see if there's anything else Maverick's power did, but no, he's still blind. That might be something to try in the future though.

He gathers his dirty clothes and leaves the bathroom in just a towel, dripping water everywhere. He says nothing about Yuya staying; he never noticed the wallet and that Yuya had been about to leave when Toki got there.]

I think I need to do laundry~! Do you want me do yours too!?
