YUYA SAKAKI UN: FUNDIRECTION

BIO: Hello! You can call me Yuya. I'm from Sendai, Japan. This is my second year in Daybreak Academy. I'm a Tamer, and Odd-Eyes is my familiar. He's the big red dragon that hangs out in the courtyards. He's friendly but he tries to steal food sometimes. I speak Japanese and English but not very good French. I'm also in the theater club. I'm in Lumiere 203. Let's be friends!

[ Maybe it's the glasses, but Ren sounds to him like a smart guy who wouldn't have problems with exams, and would probably get back to work right away. Even if he doesn't, straight black coffee in water is just fine with Kano too, and he'll just help himself and say sorry later. ]

Yep, yep, third floor~ [ He loops his arms over Yuya's shoulder and clasps his hand over the wrist of the other. ] One day, I hope he'll expand it into some sort of restaurant, and then I won't ever have to leave my floor...

[ THE DREAM ]

[Yuya hooks his arms under Kano's knees, testing the weight before hefting him up and straightening up. When he's sure he's got him, he starts walk to the door.]

By then it might cost actual money. Unless you get employee benefits? Would Kano be a server or a barista?

[ Kano laughs, warm breath against the back of Yuya's neck. ]

Haha... Think a bit of what you're asking!! Do you really think Ren would trust me to be a barista?

[ Would any of the cafe's patrons trust him to be a barista..... ]

You'd cooperate with a no cricket rule, wouldn't you? [Yuya tilts his head, grinning.]

I guess as a server, you'd get to talk to way more people. It'd be fun, right?

[ Would he, though? That's optimistic. ]

I suppose that's true~ I'd get all the "thank you"s, while Ren's over there slaving over a hot coffee maker~ [ But servers aren't expected to linger, and tend to be bothersome when they do linger at tables, compared to the bar itself where people sit and chat up the barista while they do their work.

Overall, food service probably isn't Kano's thing, nobody should trust him anywhere near food. ]

What about you? If there's an opening for a position, would you take it?

Mm, I don't know. I'm usually busy with the drama club, or mandatory tutoring. But I could try and see if I like it. Maybe I'd learn how to make latte art, that's appealing right?

[He pauses at the door, looking at the handle.] Uh, can you open it?

[ Mandatory tutoring... poor soul. ]

Latte art's pretty, I guess? Kinda a shame, 'cause it disappears so quickly~

[ Kano reaches out with one hand, relying on Yuya to step forward and bend over just the slightest bit more for him to reach the handle and open the door. He could hold it open while Yuya shuffles his way inside, or he can— and this is what he chooses to do— fling the door open with all his might and trust Yuya to run inside before the door hits them on the its way swinging back. ]

So you take a picture to remember it! [Yuya has the sense to lean over and get Kano in reach. And once the door swings open, he starts and then jumps through the doorway. He tightens his grip as he bounds up the stairs, and it's probably a much bumpier ride.

It's more exerting, so he's trying to hurry to the third floor.]

[ It's that sort of memory keeping Toki was encouraged to do, but Kano already knows he himself won't have the inclination to take photos of nice things like that, so latte art would be a waste on him.

It really is a good thing they did this before the alcohol, because no promises Kano wouldn't have throw up being bounced up the stairs after binge drinking. ]

Is anybody up here...?

[ There's nobody in the halls or the common area, nor the little corner cafe shop. ]

...How 'bout it, want to play barista~?

[Yuya leans over, staring down the hall.]

I don't see anyone... but I don't want to make him mad messing with his stuff.

[Yuya ultimately doesn't know Rin very well, nor does he know how to operate the coffee equipment past the basic drip. Maybe he's touchy about things getting touched when he's not around.]

[ Kano doesn't know him well either, and if he does make Ren mad, he'll have to deal with Minako on top of that too, probably. Still... he has zero qualms about stealing a bag of coffee grounds and using the normal hot water boiler in the kitchen. ]

Think he'll notice if a bag's missing? We can always call him up and interrupt whatever after-midterm celebration he's having.

... If it's just a bag, we can pay him back for it. I'll tell him later.

[At least that way they aren't risking breaking the equipment, so he makes his way to the cafe.] It's pretty cool that he does this.

[ This is why Yuya's the responsible one; it'll be his money, and him telling Ren, and Kano pretending he had nothing to do with it. ]

Isn't it~ A self-made man, starting his own business like this~ Rumor has it there's cricket lattes in here somewhere...

[ He hops down from Yuya's back once they reach the cafe, ducking behind the counter and crouching down to scan the different types of beans behind it. ]

Arabica, Liberica, Robusta, Excela... Which one's good coffee, do you know? "Excel" means it's better than the others?

[Kano is, tragically, not the only one who takes advantage of yuya's sense of responsibility to others.]

Did you have something to do with that one? [Yuya leans over the counter, folding his arms on it.] I think Arabica is the one a lot of coffee shops use?

[He pulls his phone out, typing the last one in to check the internet.] It sounds like Excelsa is more... flavorful? You're probably right it's better.

Not directly, surprisingly!! [ It's something he would make, yeah... ] It's what they say, right? Take advantage of what materials you have at hand, so that's what he did~

[ aka he killed and helped himself to some of the 500 crickets that were unleashed, which Kano supposes he should be grateful for, maybe!! but he really did want all those crickets alive.

Too bad, but it's in the past now, so he picks up one of the Excelsa bags. ]

Alright~ We're going to drink like kings tonight, Yu~ya!

All right! [Yuya leans off the counter.] So where are we celebrating?

[He just assumes Kano has a plan for brewing the coffee without Ren's equipment.]

Hm, hm~ Chances are, you won't remember after tonight, so how 'bout this? Something of a club house~ What do you think?

Why wouldn't I remember...? [He leans in with interest, though.] There's a clubhouse?

Because you're going to be blackout drunk~ I'll show you the club house when it's time~ Can I get you to brew up the coffee downstairs in the kitchen? I'll take care of the alcohol~

[ Microwave hot water or something, he doesn't know how to make coffee. It's up to you and Google, Yuya...!! ]

[Yuya is severely underestimating what binge drinking is gonna end up like.

Still, he takes the coffee with a nod. He'll probably just borrow the kitchen's coffee maker instead of Ren's personal one.]

Okay. You'll find me down there?

Mmhm~ I'll come find you! The pink ones are your preference, right? I'll get lots of them, and meet you back downstairs in an hour~ Keep the coffee hot for me! Brew it strong!!

[ He has to go all the way to town for these, I guess, and haul it all back. He's also dead tired bc he has to power through this without coffee, but he's powered through worse and on less.

BRB!!! ]

[Yuya gives Kano a mock salute and waves him off before heading downstairs. His task is probably just shorter, so he'll be waiting with a pot of coffee and a container of cream and sugar each, in case Kano wants those. And mugs, all collected onto a tray.]

[ An hour is the estimate that Kano gives, but he eventually gets back to the dorm, carrying what looks like a large potted cactus in his hands- that jingles with glass clanging against one another when he lifts it triumphantly and gives it a shake when he sees Yuya. It's the alcohol, though currently disguised, because obviously nobody will question Kano walking around with a cactus. ]

Alright, here we are~ It's a bit of a trek, so are you alright balancing that by yourself? We're going back up~

[Is it telling that people would think less of Kano carrying a cactus than alcohol that he's technically legal for in France.]

Mm, I've got it! [Yuya balances the tray in his hands before starting to walk carefully.] I'll follow your lead!

[ lmfao yes. but also, alcohol's crazy expensive, probably, and there is no way Kano paid real money for all these bottles. He hugs the bag of bottles to his chest, though, before bounding up the stairs to the second floor. The third. Fourth. The roof. It's the rooftop.
