YUYA SAKAKI UN: FUNDIRECTION

BIO: Hello! You can call me Yuya. I'm from Sendai, Japan. This is my second year in Daybreak Academy. I'm a Tamer, and Odd-Eyes is my familiar. He's the big red dragon that hangs out in the courtyards. He's friendly but he tries to steal food sometimes. I speak Japanese and English but not very good French. I'm also in the theater club. I'm in Lumiere 203. Let's be friends!

[One afternoon, Marcel drops Toki off in the second floor hallway. He struggles a bit with opening the door, trying to balance five cardboard boxes, three relatively large, while turning the knob. As he finally gets inside, the small box on top falls to the floor and he kicks it to the side out of his way.]

Yuya! Are you here? I got things~!

[Yuya at least gets up to open the door when he sees Toki struggling to get in.] Whoa! What's all this?

[Toki sets the boxes on his desk and goes to retrieve the small one.]

Okay! So like, I haven't been allowed to use the internet since the website, right? But last week, I managed to convince Marcel to let me use one of the academy's computers in the library, under supervision, and so~! I bought things! I may have gone a bit overboard, but I didn't know when I'd get another chance and I kind of... used all my allotted time before I knew it and I meant to get some things for you too, but well...

[Toki sets the small box down too, and digs through his desk drawer for scissors. Which have been confiscated as they're in the "sharp things" category.]

Do you have scissors or like something to open them with?

Uh, yeah. [He digs some scissors out of his desk and offers them to Toki.] What'd you buy?

[He takes the scissors and opens the small box.]

I was thinking I hadn't gotten Kuroko any new outfits for a while, and then kind of had a flashback to that horrible clown one and I thought, you know what, Kuroko is past that stage and maybe she needs some different things. Life isn't all about being cute~!

[He pulls out several larger catnip mice; they have cute rope tails and are made from odd fabrics.]

More mature mice! And they're too big to get stuck under the dresser!

[The second thing in the small box is a variety pack of cat socks. Toki sets them aside.]

Those are for Maverick, but like everything else is for Kuroko~!

[He tosses one of the mice at Yuya and works on opening the second box.]

Cute. [He catches the mouse in the air, dangling it foe Kuroko. She's more interested in the box, though.] Maverick is the guy with red hair upstairs, right?

[She'll probably like all the boxes more than her toys.]

Yeah, that's him. You don't really know him, do you? He's really great and like... very important.

[He's getting emotional, and he turns away to compose himself while digging something out of the second box. It's a black scratching post, with an interesting feature. Toki sets it on the floor.]

This has... [He finds the power switch and turns it on, but nothing happens.] ... lasers~! Or... I guess it needs batteries, but there's like laser pointers built in!

[Yuya shakes his head, raising a brow as he looks back to Toki. "Imporant" huh...] You two are close?

[He's always relieved Toki has a support network around the school. Despite his infamy, he might have more than Yuya.]

[He finds himself rambling about Maverick before he can stop.]

I met him like the first week, and we weren't really friends until later, but like... he's always been there for me, even when I didn't realize it and always told me when I was being stupid or annoying, but he didn't hate me for it? I mean, we yell a lot, or used to, and it's not like a traditional normal friendship I guess? But he tells me what I need to hear sometimes, and not what I want to... I didn't really appreciate him until after I got back from the hospital. I hurt him, a lot, like with you, and I could finally acknowledge that and he... hasn't left.

[He pauses to focus on the third box, slowly cutting through the tape.]

I want to see him smile like... I want him to be happy. He deserves it... Cat socks aren't like my endgame here, though, I mean I'm not just going to buy him things and- Anyway! Maverick kind of reminds me of you sometimes. He cares so much about other people, but I think that it gets to him...

[Toki isn't sure where he's going with this, so he opens the box instead, pulling out two smaller boxes with labels and pictures on them. These need to be assembled. He holds one up for Yuya's inspection. There's a picture of a confused cat sitting in an ice cream truck.]

Now, do you think Kuroko is a trucker? [The other box is shown.] Or is she a pilot!?

[Like him...? Yuya blinks slowly, but then Toki shifts the conversation to Kuroko's things and he loses his own train of thought.]

Ah--you bought her a lot of things, do we have space for all those...? [This is turning into a cat jungle gym.]

[Toki is completely oblivious to his possible miscommunication on his feelings for Maverick. Instead, he's pondering Kuroko's future career. She can have a cute pointy hat if she's driving an ice cream truck, but also some cool goggles like Yuya's if she's a pilot. Decisions.]

Uhh... I hope we have space~! Because there's more!

[Opening the fourth box, he pulls out a half-assembled wooden thing that he unfolds like a tray table, attaching the little hammock to the top.]

I was thinking this could go by the window if she likes it, but I also got... this! It's really cute!

[The final box is opened and Toki reveals a purple cat bed complete with a little pillow and matching blanket. Looking at the array of cat things now cluttering up the floor, and the fact that Kuroko still seems more amused with the boxes than the items, Toki realizes he maybe went a little overboard.]

This is too much, isn't it?

[It's way too much.]

... Maybe we can donate all the extra stuff to the shelter.

Yes! That's a great idea! They took care of Kuroko when she was in need and I'm sure she appreciates it.

[Kuroko doesn't seem to have an opinion on it, batting one of the large mice into a box and chasing after it.]

She doesn't need all the elaborate things.

[Yuya reaches to stroke Kuroko as she pats at the edge of some tape.] She seems pretty happy with her simple toys. But these will still make a lot of other cats happy. We'll see which ones she likes and give them the rest.

Maybe I should buy some food for the shelter cats too, like really good tuna~!

[He watches Kuroko for a minute. She's happy, and he's having a normal conversation with Yuya. It's a small step, and things may be turning around. Roommates doing normal mundane things, a carefree moment that's become rare. The kind of experience Toki's determined to get back.]

[Until Yuya goes on a rampage, and then the tables have turned.

Yuya stifles a chuckle.] Maybe you'll just become a patron to the shelter.
