BIO: Hello! You can call me Yuya. I'm from Sendai, Japan. This is my second year in Daybreak Academy. I'm a Tamer, and Odd-Eyes is my familiar. He's the big red dragon that hangs out in the courtyards. He's friendly but he tries to steal food sometimes. I speak Japanese and English but not very good French. I'm also in the theater club. I'm in Lumiere 203. Let's be friends!

You! I'll get a key soon, I swear!

[Awkward. It's been like four months and he still hasn't gotten a replacement.]

Anyway! If you're not busy, I want to talk about something!

[hippocarnival]

You still haven't replaced it? [Yuya raises a brow, putting his key into the lock and opening the door.]

What's up?

[yokeye]

Not yet!

[Toki enters the room after the door is open and drops his bag in his chair. He sits on his desk.]

Okay~! So... Uhh...

[He bites his lip, not sure how to actually start this since Yuya has been privy to his previous escapades and the like.]

I think... Have you... Do you know what it feels like to love somebody!? Not like your family or like just finding someone attractive, but like... I can't explain it...

[hippocarnival]

[Yuya lets Toki walk in first, closing the door behind him as he enters--and then stops.]

Uh, you mean like a crush? [Boy does he.] You have a crush on somebody?

[yokeye]

It's more than that! Like I had a crush on Orihime because she was pretty and fun to be around and that's... it? Then when I got to know her better, it wasn't anything real, you know? Maverick was like that too! It's usually always like that! Something that doesn't last, that isn't- it's just fun! But now I've been like thinking about her all the time and I talk about how perfect she is, trying to get someone else to notice it and maybe make her happy and it just hit me when I was talking about her like that, that I want to make her happy!

[Actual feelings are hard.]

[hippocarnival]

So you really like her. [Yuya's expression twists into an amused look. He walks over to his desk, circling his chair around to face Toki before sitting down.

He props his chin on his hands.] So you're thinking you want to ask her out?

[yokeye]

[Toki sighs in frustration, because there's so much that comes with asking her out.]

I want to! But, we're really good friends and I don't want to... change that!? Like I don't want to mess it up just by asking! She's really special and I don't want to lose that connection by telling her how I feel!

[hippocarnival]

[Oh. Yuya's expression sinks immediately, because he knows that feeling exactly.]

Well... do you think she definitely doesn't like you that way? Does she seem like she'd be awkward that you liked her?

[yokeye]

[Toki looks down at his hands and picks at his fingernails. There's only a very slim chance she feels anything like that for him.]

I'm pretty sure she doesn't. I know she likes me and likes hanging out with me, and we can talk about things, serious things, but... I think if there's anything she feels beyond friendship, it's like platonic still! I can't tell! She might be awkward about it, she's awkward sometimes, and I don't want everything to be like that... but I want to her know?

[hippocarnival]

[Yuya leans back in his seat.] That's a hard one... I guess, do you want to tell her because you want to be honest to your feelings? Or address you hoping if you tell her she'll say yes?

[yokeye]

[It seems like that distinction should be hard to figure out, but it's not.]

I just want to be honest! I don't want to hide it from her? It just... might change things and I don't want that either! But... I think being honest with her and telling her how I feel is important, even if she just wants to be friends.

[hippocarnival]

[Yuya nods.] Then I think, if you tell her I'd just... tell her. Like, you don't have to be romantic if you don't really want to pursue her? But if risking your friendship is a bigger issue, there's worse things you could be hiding.

[He doesn't sound terribly driven to get a date, though, so Yuya won't try and encourage that.]

[yokeye]

[That's good advice, and maybe exactly what he needed to hear. Because dating her is not a goal; he would, but he's much more concerned with preserving what they have already.]

Okay! It's decided! I'll tell her, but I won't make a big deal out of it! I won't ask her out, just tell her how I feel and that I hope it doesn't change anything just because she knows.

[Toki smiles, relieved. He feels good about this; maybe he's made a decision that won't lead to disaster for once. And now, he thinks he should return the favor of discussing such topics.]

What about you, Yuya~!? Do you like anybody!?

[hippocarnival]

Eh? [Yuya lifts his head, blinking rapidly. He waves his hand dismissively.] No, I'm not really looking right now!

[yokeye]

Ah, you're still young~! You don't have to be looking; it will hit you out of nowhere~! Well! when you do like somebody, you can always come to me for advice~!

[He likely has very bad advice.]

[hippocarnival]

You were just coming to me for advice! [He points his finger at Toki.] And you're not even a year older than me, like--when's your birthday?

[He remembers suddenly he and Kano meant to figure that out.]

[yokeye]

Mutual advice trade~!

[Yuya's definitely better off with his own advice. His mood shifts when Yuya asks that question, but Toki tries to hide any evidence of that with too much smiling.]

My birthday's at the end of December~! The 28th~!

[It's not really a thing he wants to think about anymore. Everything happened in December: his sister's death, the daemon contract, the first string of horrible visions. He turned 15 en route to Daybreak.]

[hippocarnival]

See! You're only two months older than me. [And based of what he knows of Toki's escapades, it's probably not useful advice to him. He's not going to pick random girls up at bars. Or any girls.] So you can't say anything about my age.

[yokeye]

Point taken! However~! There are different kinds of youth and you are clearly more inexperienced in the ways of romance~!

[hippocarnival]

I don't think getting drunk and going to a stranger's house is romantic. [Yuya sticks out his tongue.] So I'll pass.

[yokeye]

[Toki looks away in embarrassment; he hadn't really made a habit of that kind of thing, but Yuya will never forget.]

Well, maybe that wasn't...

[hippocarnival]

... So who is it? The girl you like. [So has curious, even if he won't admit to his own crush.]

[yokeye]

Adelaide Cooke!

[Whom he's not sure Yuya knows well, so he adds...]

She got the fish tank!

[hippocarnival]

Oh, Adelaide! [He knows exactly who that is, grinning.] Yeah, she's really nice.

[yokeye]

She is! There's just something about her that draws you in, like you'd do anything for her! She's the best!

[And also a vampire, which he is completely okay with somehow.]
